Make love...Not war...
Make love, not war. A phrase that is everywhere, either on peoples tongues, on T-shirts, bumper stickers, in songs maybe. A very well known statement that preaches a certain way of dealing with the world, relationships, politics, etc. Turmoil has struck those close to me, and this series of events is nothing out of the ordinary, in fact this situation should have been under control because in my opinion this kind of thing happens all the time and to everyone. I will explain to you, as the sun rises and I continue to lose sleep, that the above statement is misleading. When the statement is received by anyone, the instant conclusion the person arrives to is that people don't love each other, therefore there are wars and fights amongst them. I am here to point out to whoever cares to listen, and I am sincerely hoping some of those close to me are reading this as well, that love is the most dangerous of emotion or feeling that can strike a person. Love can be the cause of war, the nastiest kind of war, charged with other emotions, jealousy, spite, revenge, rage. The shitty thing about war, is that people get hurt along the way, the collateral damage is what makes war such a painful and destructive endeavor, people who are completely innocent get shot or bombed due to poor judgment made by a mind that is full of rage, or fueled by jealousy. You probably disagree but I will provide one timeless example and on that you can judge. The Trojan War, was caused by love. Helen of Sparta disappeared on a fine ass spartan day, the wife of the King of Sparta Menelaus. He of course got upset, and decided to embark on a full scale war against the Greeks in the city of Troy. His personal problem, turned into a international fiasco, he had his army travel and fight another army to reclaim his love. His problem, not the poor footsoldiers who lost their lives for this. He could have picked up his sword, got on the next flight, get this misunderstanding out of the way and everything would have been better. Instead he opted to wreck homes, blast families apart, destroy many lives in order to save his. I am collateral damage, so are others with me, lying face down ear deep in mud wandering with the last couple of breaths why did we get shot when everything was going A-Okay, and no harm has been projected onto others by us. Now, sit back, light a cigarette and try to remember, the last time this happened in your life, maybe what Im trying to point out will suddenly become clear.
